Third Answer
You open one spade in third seat, LHO passes, and partner bids two clubs (Drury, promising three-plus spades and 10+ support points).

Now suppose that, over partner’s Drury call, East (your RHO) bids three diamonds; does that change your mind? East’s call improves the value of your King of diamonds, but there is the chance that LHO will have a singleton diamond and will lead it. Another consideration is that the pre-empt by East increases the likelihood that spades will break badly. So we think that it’s best not to invite game.
There is, however, a tactical consideration. Being vulnerable against non-vulnerable opponents, it’s possible that if you bounce confidently into game, the opponents will sacrifice, and you would be happy to double, hoping for plus 300 or better. If you think of this in time, you could try a prompt confident four spades.
