We find that many players believe that the path to winning is to bid the games and slams that make.
Similarly, many players seek to declare and defend so as to make the most tricks on the actual layout.
However, the superior strategies are to bid the games and slams that are more likely than not to make in the long run, and to declarer and defend so as to score well in the long run.
Said differently, the best strategy is to focus on making good decisions that stand to produce good scores in the long run, not on making the decision that will be the winning choice right now. When we say this, we recognize how important it is to you (and to us) to win right now, but the path to winning consistently is to make good decisions. And when — not if, when — you make a good decision that turns out badly right now, shrug it off, and take comfort in the fact that you will win more often in the long run.
