Bonus from Val: We used random-dealing software to confirm our analysis. 64% of the randomly-dealt hands for partner were sufficient to take ten tricks with spades as trumps. So if you were inclined to pass, you’re too conservative; if you were inclined to accept, the random-dealing results support your inclination. Deal V045.
