The Full Deal

Our opponent South opened one spade. Minus 170 (against two hearts) was a 71% score for us (EW), because most NS pairs reached three notrump and made that contract. Reaching three notrump is easy if South starts with one notrump, but it’s anything but easy if South starts with one spade. For NS, plus 600 scores 71% (29% for EW).
Bonus from Val: One of the frequent advantages of opening one notrump is that it makes the auction easy for partner, and that was the story on this deal. On a different layout, South’s weak doubleton in hearts could have been a problem, but not on this layout. Deal V111.
