Quiz 131

The Full Deal

Above is the auction at our table. The play proceeded: Jack of clubs to the Ace, King of clubs, a third club (South discarded a diamond, West ruffed), Ace-Queen of hearts to South’s King, Ace-King of spades drawing trumps, and South had the rest for plus 140 scoring 96%.

The deal was played at 225 tables, and the best scores for NS were when South competed to two spades. Minus 100 in two spades (scoring 54%) was better than minus 110 (43%) or minus 140 (27%). As usual, it was important to compete to the two level in the eight-card fit. East might have redoubled at East’s first turn. On the actual auction, East had a difficult decision at the end of the auction. Deal C054.
