First Answer
The opening lead is the three of spades (four, Jack, Ace).

What’s your plan?. You have 27 combined HCP and a 5-3 diamond fit, and normally that would be enough to make three notrump. But you have only five fast certain winners, the club suit is blocked, and you have no side entry to dummy. Certainly, you will need some tricks from diamonds. Ideally, you’d like to lead up to your KJ965, but you’re in your hand with no convenient way to enter the dummy. It wouldn’t be ridiculous to cash the King-Queen of clubs and play the seven of hearts, hoping to scramble nine tricks somehow, but it seems more straightforward to play on diamonds from your hand. Probably your best shot is to lead the King of diamonds (hoping that a defender has Ace-ten doubleton or Queen-ten doubleton).
Say that you lead the King of diamonds. West surprises you by discarding the two of hearts. East wins the Ace and plays the nine of spades (ten, King). Now the four of clubs from West.
What’s your plan?
